Sparta’s skate park opened earlier this month.
Mayor Jeff Young said the park has been a popular attraction.
“More welcomed to the community or by the community than we anticipated, we have 20-30 kids there every afternoon skating and we’re exited about it, we’re glad the kids love it,” Young said.
The city will host an official opening at 2 p.m. Saturday.
It’s taken seven years of saving to make the skate park a reality, Young said.
“You do things you want to do last and what you have to do first. And every year, us being a small community with a smaller budget, we did what we have to do every year. I’ve pinched and saved and the board has worked well with me and we finally set back enough money and we also got some contributions from the county as well so we appreciate their part,” Young said.
The park closes at dusk, just like all Sparta’s city parks.
