Sparta residents will have to change the way they imagine the Sparta Rotary Club’s 75th annual Christmas Parade.
This year the parade will be stationary and residents will drive-thru the parade instead of standing and watching floats go by. Sparta Rotary Club President Terri Whited said medical professionals reached out and suggested trying something different this year to protect the community.
“This is going to be, we think, a very fun alternative… we think that the floats are going to be very much more creative this year because they’re going to be stationary,” Whited said. “They’re not gonna have to build something that’s gonna have to go down the straight, it’s gonna be right there and it can be a lot more decorative, our theme this year is toy land.”
The parade will start at 2:00 PM on December 12 at White County Middle School. Whited said people need to remain in their car to keep traffic flowing.
“People that drive through will turn onto Turntable Road, make a right into the middle school campus,” Whited said. “Follow the parent pickup route around the school… when they exit they’ll turn right onto Turntable Road and then they can follow around and come out on Hill Street.”
Whited said there will be goody bags for kids before they exit the drive-thru parade. She said it was important to the Rotary Club to make this event possible on its 75th anniversary.
