Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen have passed an ordinance on first reading that allows the manufacturing of beer within city limits.
The city currently doesn’t have an ordinance to address the manufacturing of alcohol within the city. The city does have an ordinance that allows and regulates the sale of alcohol through the city beer board.
The city chose to adopt the ordinance after being approached by a local couple who plans to open Happy Trails Brewery in the old Sparta TV and Appliance building on Bockman Way.
The owners hope to have the business operational within the next 10 to 12 months.
