Sparta moving forward with an agreement for sewer flow monitoring services.
The City Council approved the $44,270 contract Thursday night. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said flow monitors will be implemented into the sewer systems to track potential overflows.
“And they put meters at several different locations around the city and that’s how they monitor the inflow of water,” Quick said. “And that data will be sent to Hethcoat and Davis for them to look at and make recommendations for us to make such repairs.”
Quick said the monitors will last about two to three months depending on the amount of rainfall. He said if there is more of a drought condition, the minoring could last up to five months.
Mayor Jerry Lowery said these efforts are part of the ongoing work to improve sewer issues. Quick said the monitoring is also required by the city’s TDEC agreement.
