The Sparta Fire Department’s newest fire engine headed to Nashville for repairs after it was rear ended.
Fire Chief Kirk Young said the engine hit while stopped at a red light on North Spring Street. Young said the truck is likely to be out of service for the next four to six weeks.
“As long as they have all the appropriate equipment and parts there available, they’re going to get into our engine just as quick as we get everything lined up,” Young said. “It’ll be taken to Nashville for service.”
Young said the only equipment that was damaged inside of the truck was a ground monitor, which they have a backup for. He said the department has multiple engines at other stations that they can use to take calls in the meantime.
“We are still ready and able and willing to take care of anything that we are needed to make calls on,” Young said.
Young said the rest of the equipment in the truck was transferred to the other engines throughout the department. Young said he believes the damage will be paid for by the other driver’s insurance.
“We have not got the last bid from the company out of Nashville on the amount of damage to the truck yet, nor do we have any hard copy amounts on what is going to be replaced,” Young said.
