Sparta Considering Options If Pumping Station Repair Is Delayed

Sparta’s sewer pumping station at Wilson Sporting Goods delayed work until late-July.

Public Works Director Dillard Quick said delays have been caused over the demand for the equipment. Quick said because the equipment is now obsolete, they cannot buy any parts to try and make temporary repairs.

“Right now both pumps are down but we are pumping out everyday,” Quick said. “Right now we’re trying to figure out what a quick solution would be to get one of the pumps up and running so we don’t have to run up there once a day, sometimes twice a day depending on what’s going on.”

Quick said a temporary fix would be welding some type of pump into the station to prevent extra costs to Sparta. Quick said that if another delay happens on this project the public works department will have to use equipment they have to get by while they wait on the CDBG project to begin.
