Sparta Collects 38 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs During Take Back Event

Sparta collected a total of 38-pounds of used or unwanted prescription drugs during Saturday’s national drug take back day event.

That’s 31-pounds less than the April event took in, but Sparta Police Chief Jeff Guth said it’s still considered a success.

“Anytime you can get anything at all it’s a success,” Guth said. “The numbers were down and I think a lot of it had to do with the weather, but I feel like anything we get is better than nothing at all.”

The DEA first launched the take back day more than six years ago and since then has collected more than 8.1 million pounds of prescription drugs from the public.
