Sparta City Administrator Brad Hennessee has accepted a new position with the city of Murfreesboro.
Hennessee resigned Thursday. He said he wanted a new opportunity that was better for his family while also moving to more of an outdoors position.
“I have greatly enjoyed my time with the city of Sparta, and I’m grateful to be able to serve the residents of Sparta,” Hennessee said. “Collectively, we’ve been able to make meaningful improvements to the community over the last three years.”
Hennessee said his new position is a combination of engineering and public works that will evaluate infrastructure upgrades. Hennessee said the job fits more of his personal interests.
“The city administrator job in Sparta is an inside job, and all the jobs I have had in the past were outdoors and I enjoy the outdoors,” Hennessee said. “So, it was not anything in particular. It was just more personal interest than anything else.”
Hennessee said the city’s recent change in administration and the sewer moratorium did not play a role in his decision. Hennessee said he will do what he can to facilitate a smooth transition for the city.
Hennessee said he will no longer be an employee for Sparta by the end of the month. Hennessee said the infrastructure plan he implemented for paving and utility pipes is something he is most proud of over three year tenure.
