Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold the second and final vote on changes to its personnel manual tonight.
The vote will cap a months-long procedure to update the manual and take it out of city code.
City Administrator Chris Dorsey said as long as it remains part of city code, the board has to pass a law to change anything about the manual. That makes it harder, and takes longer, to update it.
If the board approves the measure tonight, all changes to the manual will still need board approval. But that approval can come in the form of a resolution, which only requires one vote.
