The Sparta Board of Aldermen wants to improve its sanitation operation through a trailer repair project approved Thursday night.
City Administrator Brad Hennessee said up to $25,000 was allocated to bring the city’s second trash compactor trailer up to standard.
“To buy one of those new is at least $125,000,” Hennessee said. “The rest of the trailer is reasonably good, so it is worth that type of investment.”
Hennessee said the floor and walls of the trailer have corroded due to hauling garbage. Hennessee said once repaired, the city would be able to transport two full loads of garbage. Before, only one trailer was usable.
The city is currently diverting its trash to McMinnville. Hennessee said he does not expect any news regarding the county landfill for several weeks.
