Sparta has a new city administrator.
“I really do appreciate it,” City Administrator Tonya Tindle said. “I’ll do everything I can to do the best job possible for the city.”
The Board of Aldermen unanimously approved City Recorder and Certified Municipal Finance Officer Tonya Tindle to fill the position Thursday. Tindle served as interim since October after City Administrator Brad Hennessee resigned.
Mayor Jerry Lowery recommended Tindle to take over the position. Lowery said the appointment makes history as the first female city administrator for Sparta.
“As I have been out talking to various departments, the one common factor is Tonya’s knowledge on the financial end of it,” Lowery said. “I think she is very highly respected in the community and the surrounding counties.”
Lowery said Tindle will continue to serve as city recorder. However, the certified municipal finance officer role is now vacant. The Board of Aldermen approved opening the position for applications in the same meeting.
