Sparta Aldermen Agree To New 4 Year Contract With City Administrator

The Sparta Board of Aldermen has given City Administrator Brad Hennessee a four year extension.

Mayor Jeff Young said Hennessee has earned the new employment agreement through his work over the past two years.

“We felt like four years was a good arrangement to have with Brad doing the job that he’s done and the two year track record and history he’s got,” Young said. “We felt like four years was justified. It creates a safe environment for him, and it gives us some protection.”

Young said the contract also puts the next administration in a successful position.

“One thing that I try to do and the board follows suit also, we try to make sure we have things in place for the next administration or board to come in,” Young said. “We want to leave the city of Sparta in good hands.”

Young said Hennessee’s pay rate is competitive with others across the region. According to Young, the salary comes in at about $108,000.

“He is very very consciousness about the job he does,” Young said. “He tries to dot every I and cross every T. Keeps me as well as the board informed on anything that he is working on a day to day basis, and over the past two years, he’s proved himself to be very worthy.”

Hennessee has been a cornerstone for multiple projects for the city. He has worked on plans that have improved roads, traffic lights, sewer, water and public safety for the city.

In other business, the Board of Aldermen appointed John Meadows to serve as Sparta’s Municipal Court Judge. Meadows practices out of Livingston where he also serves as the city attorney.

The city also authorized Young to enter a retainer agreement with a Nashville law firm to represent the municipality in opioid-related lawsuits. The decision came with no financial costs to the city.
