South Fentress Park To Close For Winter Season

South Fentress Park will close for the winter season starting Wednesday, December 21st.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said this is an annual process that started about four or five years ago. He said crews will use this closure as a time to catch up on maintenance.

“If there’s any trees that need to be cut at this time we can do that, we can go back with the playground and get it to where it needs to be with the sand and all that stuff,” Johnson said. “And then where we have some vandalism we can get all of that taken care of.”

Johnson said the restroom facilities will also be closed for plumbing maintenance. He said the park’s walking portion will still be open for public use.

Johnson said the park has a tentative opening date of February 13th. He said pending cold weather, that date could change.

“This is just a really good time for us to get caught up on what needs to be done,” Johnson said. “And so for the 10 months out of the year, it gets used it’ll be in good shape and Lord be our helper we’ll get this done quick and open on time.”
