Just over 500 Livingston residents cast ballots during early voting for Tuesday’s mayoral and aldermen election.
Overton County Administrator of Elections Craig Story said early voting in Livingston is common due to the density of the town. Story said he’s uncertain as to what turnout will be for this year, citing the contested races after the mayor and two aldermen chose not to run.
“Each one’s different, I mean, you know, two years ago, we didn’t have a contested race and we didn’t even have to have early voting,” Story said. “So, each election is a little bit different. And it’s kind of hard to compare them. You got to compare apples to apples so, I think we’re doing alright.”
Story said that, while this race is unusual, early voting in the town typically makes up half of an election’s votes.
“We did a shade over 500 for early voting,” Story said. “Typically we do about 50 percent early and 50 percent on Election Day. But, town of Livingston is usually just a little bit different election because all the residents are right here close and early voting is just really easy for them, so I don’t know that we’ll do that many on election day.”
Candidates in the mayoral race include Lori Elder Burnett, Nathan Carr, Nathan Dale, and Robert “Bert” Jolley. Rex Dale, Arno Proctor, Jeramie Reeder, and Lance Ruble are running for aldermen.
Polls will be open on Tuesday from 9 am to 7 pm.
