Smoke Testing Begins In Baxter Today

The Baxter Water Department began conducting smoke testing on the city’s sewer system today.

Mayor John Martin said the project will help locate areas where ground water is leaking into the sewer system.

“We feel like that we are going to see things that we need to get done,” Martin said. “With the growth that we’ve got in the city of Baxter, this is something that we’ve got to do and we are going to correct all the lines that we can.”

Martin said folks may notice smoke coming roof vents of houses, which is normal and may indicate damaged plumbing or plumbing that has not been used recently. To help avoid smoke entering your home, pour water into drains to fill the trap.

The smoke testing will likely be going on for the rest of this week.
