Very little known about a shooting incident Thursday afternoon that caused officials in Smithville to lockdown local offices and issue alerts about a dangerous individual.
District Attorney Bryant Dunaway said last night he has asked the TBI to investigate the incident, after Van Buren and Warren County District Attorney Chris Stanford allegedly fired shots against an individual.
“The incident involved a report that … Stanford, fired shots during the attempted apprehension of a man named Caleb Brookins on outstanding warrants out of Warren County,” Dunaway said. “He was later taken into custody on those warrants and transported to Warren County. No individual was shot in the incident.”
Caleb Brookins taken into custody Thursday night after officials said he was on foot near Bell Street. He was apprehended in Smithville just after 6pm. Officials said in a 911 alert Thursday afternoon he was wanted for multiple shootings. It appears that the shootings actually took place in Warren County, according to the Warren County Sheriffs Department.
A woman, Hannah Rose, charged after she struck a law enforcement officer with an automobile, apparently in an attempt to flee the scene. The officer transported to the hospital. His condition not known.
