The splash pad at Smithville’s Green Brook Park is officially open for its third summer in a row.
Mayor Josh Miller said the splash pad has become a big hit in the community over the past few years. Miller said it is important to have things for children to enjoy in a small town like Smithville.
“There’s not a whole lot of things for kids to do, but I – I just think that, you know, the city council seen a need, and, of course it’s – we probably could have built it even bigger than what we built it, to be honest, so,” Miller said. “But – but it’s, it’s been a great – it’s been a – it seems to be a great thing over there, for sure.”
Miller said many children come to the park from other counties to enjoy the splash pad. He said the splash pad has been part of a recent increase in activity at the park.
“We’ve, course, installed security cameras and just tried to beef up security and got wi-fi there now, so if parents want to go and take their kids to the splash pad during the day, and maybe work – work from a laptop, they’re able to do that,” Miller said.
Miller said the splash pad required extra maintenance during its first year, but he has not heard about any issues this season.
“We’re very proud to have it open another season. Was very, very fortunate for my city council to fund this project, for sure.”
Miller said the splash pad opens at the start of May and closes at the start of September each year. He said it is open daily from 12:00pm to 7:00pm
