Smithville Recipient Of $433K Grant To Fund Transitional Housing Program

The City of Smithville named the recipient of some $433,000 in grants to help fund a transitional housing program.

Mayor Josh Miller said this comes after partnering with UCDD last year to search for grant dollars to meet this need in the city.

“The way that we’re wanting to set this up is for women and children so yes I do think there is a need for that,” Miller said.”But we are in the early part of the process of seeing how we want to structure this.”

Miller said they will also have to find a good location for the housing program in the city.

Miller said now that the funding has been awarded, they will create a committee to be in charge of the project and how the funding is spent. He said the committee will consist of council members, faith leaders, drug court, and Judge Brandon Cox. He said that committee will report back to the city council to take the next steps in the process.

“We feel very blessed,” Miller said. “We’ve been very fortunate to receive grants about this in the last few months, and we just feel very blessed and very fortunate to get this.”
