Smithville resident Jade Cade wants to be a paramedic to help people.
The 25-year-old cancer survivor works full time and is a volunteer firefighter. In order to pay tuition, Cade has set up an account at gofundme.com. She’s about 1/4 of the way to her goal of $3,000. She’s also set up a PayPal account.
“I really enjoy helping people, I’m actually a volunteer firefighter. It’s really rewarding cause you’re there for people on the worst day of their lives and I want to continue doing that and continue to help save lives,” Cade said.
Cade has enrolled in the EMT program at Motlow State Community College. She’s still paying off medical bills from a round with sarcoma in 2014. She had two surgeries and multiple scans to make sure the cancer was gone.
“The surgeries were quite expensive of course the scans, I had to go back yearly and have CT scans. I actually had to have a PET scan which is very expensive because they found something behind my kidney they were concerned about so they did the Pet scan to try to see it a bit better and it actually shrunk,” Cade said.
Motlow’s EMT program is a one-semester class that offers EMT certification. After that, Cade hopes to become an Advanced EMT and eventually a paramedic.
