Smithville Bridge Takes Third Hit

Another vehicle has crashed into Smithville’s Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Saturday afternoon, 45-year-old Jody Martin of Decherd, Tenn., tried to drive a tractor trailer under the bridge but struck the bottom.

Martin wasn’t injured, but the THP cited him for failure to exercise due care.

The bridge has been closed since last June when a county landfill truck hit it and caused major damage. A TDOT contractor is scheduled to repair the bridge next week after the Labor Day holiday.

Martin’s tractor-trailer is the third vehicle to hit the bridge in the last 14 months.
