The City of Smithville has approved its new fiscal year budget, including an 11 percent raise for all city employees.
Smithville’s Board of Alderman approved the budget on the second and final reading Thursday night. The salary increases include the five aldermen, whose salaries are set to double. Mayor Josh Miller’s salary is also set to increase from $1,000 to $2,000 a month.
The city’s tax rate will remain the same at some 0.753 per $100 and is expected to generate some $1.35 million. Its water rates are projected to increase some four percent, at about $7.70 per thousand gallons of usage.
Major projects included this year’s fiscal budget include sewer line replacement totaling $703,000 of American Rescue Plan funding, street paving at some $335,000, and a new roof for city hall projected at about $100,000.
