The Tennessee Department of Transportation has delayed the reopening of Smith County’s State Route 25 following unforeseen geotechnical issues with the ongoing rockfall mitigation project.
TDOT closed the road in June after rocks fell from a bluff above the road and struck a vehicle.
The $4.1 million rockfall mitigation project began this spring and contractors hoped to have the road reopened by September 4th.
The new target opening date is now set for October 31st.
