Smartway Now Monitored 24/7 For Upper Cumberland Region

An office change in Chattanooga should result in more efficient traffic information for the Upper Cumberland.

Spokesman Jennifer Flynn said Sunday, the Chattanooga TDOT office was able to fully staff it’s Traffic Management Center. That means there’s someone there 24/7 updating the Smartway traffic management system.

“All of our TDOT Smartway cameras, the TMC is where the feeds go into and they can watch what’s happening on our roadways,” Flynn said.

Flynn said until this week, the Knoxville TDOT office updated Smartway for the area.

“We kept late hours but it wasn’t around the clock operations, we didn’t have enough staff for that,” Flynn said.

TDOT has four TMCs, one each in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis. The Chattanooga TDOT office covers 24 counties, including the majority of the Upper Cumberland.
