Baxter Water and Sewer officials continue exploring the condition of the city’s sewer system in the wake of testing earlier this month.
The town used smoke testing to look for leaks across the system as part of plans to refurbish the city system.
“We found some issues with some manholes, we found some issues with some clean outs that were broken,” Baxter Water And Sewer Superintendent John Ramsey said. “That was the biggest thing we’ve seen right now.”
Ramsey said contractors and engineers are now using cameras to explore the manhole problems more in depth.
“They come in with a special camera that is designed for manhole inspection,” Ramsey said. “They could be where they hadn’t sealed good. You may have some where the grout is rusted out around the frame. They could be taking on water.”
With a list of small issues to tackle, Ramsey said his teams will fix a lot of the minor problems. He said he wants to wait on some of the bigger issues until all the data returns from the contractor to avoid two fixes on an area.
