Slow Down TN Campaign Efforts Continue Into Next Week

Just one week left in the Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s safety campaign to Slow Down Tennessee.

PIO Arriale Tabson said agencies across the state are working to increase awareness and enforcement to reduce speeding-related incidents She said from 2020 to 2022, there were over 28,000 traffic crashes in Tennessee related to speeding, racing, and reckless driving.

“Tennesseans are genuinely concerned,” Tabson said. “So the Slow Down Tennessee campaign was our response To try to do something to be able to help protect our roadways and help drivers understand the severity of their choices.”

Tabson said as part of these efforts, citizens can request Slow Down TN yard signs. She said the THSO also partnered with AAA to use a $5,000 donation to fund the signs.

Tabson said speeding and reckless driving is not an issue new to Tennessee highways. She said highway officials have noticed an increase in these issues since 2019 and were particularly bad during the pandemic in 2020.
