Putnam County Extension Agent Wayne Key said there’s some simple steps residents can take to mosquito-proof their property.
“Around your home, you know, we don’t want them in the home so repairing window and door screens is super important,” Key said.
The next most important thing is breaking the mosquito breeding cycle.
“Try to eliminate any sort of mosquito shelters in your yard, things that contain water like bird baths or old spare tires, or anything laying around the yard, anything water can collect in that they would possibly have as an egg-laying site and that’s where they lay their eggs,” Key said.
If you do have standing water outside, like dog bowls, Key recommends refreshing the water in them daily.
