Sexton Receives Over 80 Percent Of Vote In District 25 Race

House Speaker Cameron Sexton has been reelected after a one-sided race to represent Putnam and Cumberland counties.

Unofficial results show that Sexton received 82.7 percent of the vote with 19,655 total votes in his favor.

“It was a great day,” Sexton said. “It means the people of my house district feel like we are leading our state and doing things that they want us to do. I think it is a great vote to show that Tennessee is moving in the right direction.”

In Sexton’s home of Cumberland County, he totaled 17,759 votes and 1,896 votes in Putnam County. Democratic Candidate Anne Ferrell Quillen received 4,088 in total.

Sexton said he has several issues that he wants to tackle. Sexton said of those, inflation and the impacts to the state budget will be a focus.

“We’re going to continue to watch over the budget and continue in that direction as we are watching what is happening with Joe Biden and inflation and the national economy,” Sexton said. “We are going to continue what we can do to support families.”

Sexton said criminal justice, juvenile crime and stopping sex realignment surgeries for minors are also issues he wants to address in his new term.

“So there is still a lot on the agenda,” Sexton said. “We will take that up here in January, but a lot of members will take a week or two off and get refreshed.”
