Setbacks For HRS Newest Development Continue, Move-In Delayed

Highlands Residential Services feeling the effects of supply chain delays as its latest housing development delayed once again.

The housing authority wanted residents to move in Oak Tree Towers this month. Director of Operations Chris Cassetty said that will not happen for at least another four weeks.

“The applicants and what would soon be tenants, they are certainly anxious to get in,” Cassetty said. “It’s disappointing to them. We just don’t want to mislead anybody and have people making decisions on dates and times that might not be correct.”

The original late summer completion date has been moved back a few times due to building materials and appliances. Cassetty said the latest delay has to do with preparing the elevator for the three-story complex.

“Every elevator shaft has to have a sump pump in it, and it’s the actually pump for the sump pump that we don’t have yet,” Cassetty said. “We’re trying to work out some things with the state to make sure we have the correct size and meet all codes.”

Cassetty said the message from the housing authority now is patience. Cassetty said Highlands Residential continues to strive to provide the best housing it can.

“This could be a four week delay or it could be an eight or a 12 week delay,” Cassetty said. “We’re just not 100 percent sure at the moment and really trying to be careful that we don’t give out anymore misleading dates or times.”

Cassetty said the housing authority continues to accept applications for the low-income, senior living development.
