Senior Center Arts Grant Benefits Quilt Festival

The Algood Senior Center was one of six organizations to receive a Tennessee Arts Commission grant this week.

John Allen, coordinator with the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail, applied for the grant.

The grant will be used for this year’s Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival, which will raise funds for the senior center.

“September, 21-23, in Algood, there will be nine locations in the city where we’ll have quilts on display,” Allen said.

The Algood Senior Center has a deep connection to the quilt festival, Allen said. There’s quilt blocks painted on the building and ladies at the senior center make a quilt to be raffled off at the festival, he said.

This isn’t the first grant Allen and the Algood Senior Center have applied for. He said last year’s grant went to painting quilt blocks on barns.

This year’s quilt festival will also benefit Rising Above Ministries, Allen said.
