Senate Passes Wind Energy Bill

A bill to regulate wind energy projects in Tennessee passed the state Senate Thursday and now heads to the Governor Bill Haslam’s desk to be signed into law.

The push for regulations came after a proposed wind energy project on  Millstone Mountain near Crab Orchard last year. That project came under fire from local residents and moved lawmakers to pass a one year moratorium on such projects during last year’s legislative session.

Senator Paul Bailey and State Representative Cameron Sexton sponsored the bill.

If signed into law, Tennessee would join 46 other states that have passed some form of state-local control of wind energy projects.
