Search For White County Felon Ongoing In Putnam Co.

A felon out on parole in White County fled a traffic stop, crashed his vehicle in Baxter, and forced multiple schools to go on soft lockdown Thursday.

Putnam County authorities said a search for Michael D. Whitaker continues.

The 6-foot, 200 pound suspect has black hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and jeans when he fled the automobile crash on First Avenue today.

He’s wanted in White County for felony possession of schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, false police report, and forged auto title or plates.

Authorities said Whitaker crashed his vehicle after attempting to evade Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies during a routine traffic stop.

Baxter Primary, Upperman High School, and local daycares were put on soft lockdown, and extra Sheriff’s Office Deputies were deployed to the schools as precautionary measures. However, authorities said there is no danger to the schools at this time.
