School systems statewide will have a new tool for dealing with a COVID reopening: the closing of one school because of a COVID outbreak.
Putnam County’s Director of Schools Corby King said shut downs could be tailored.
“With this, the state has given us leeway to close individual schools,” King said. “So if I have an outbreak at one school, I only have to close that school for two or three days for deep Covid cleaning. I would not have to close the entire system.”
The Putnam County School System is made up of 20 public schools with over 10,000 students. King said a system wide shut down would only happen if a community wide outbreak occurred.
King said the state changed its guidelines for Covid to allow one school to close. A system wide shut down would only happen if a community wide outbreak occurred.
Putnam County Schools will reopen August 3 with in-classroom learning, a remote learning option and strong protocols in place to protect students.
