York Institute will honor Sergeant Alvin C. York with a new logo on the gym floor and new uniforms.
York Institute Director John Bush said the logo will be a silhouette of York’s statue that is located on Capitol Hill in Nashville. Bush said he could not spill the beans about which sports team would have new uniforms but said he is excited to better represent the founder of the school.
“We want to pay homage to Sergeant York,” Bush said. “We want to show our respect to the family cause you know there are still many of his descendants here in the county and so he is our founder and if it’s not for him our school doesn’t even exist.”
Bush said Sergeant York created the school so students on the north end of the county could be better educated and then return back to the farm. Bush said the school is now more than just an ag magnet school but he believes the school’s branding has not best represented what the school is supposed to be.
“How it happened I’m not really sure it’s just like most things you drift,” Bush said. “A lot of people refer to us as York Institute or then sometimes they will say Alvin C. York Institute but our name is Alvin C. York Agricultural Institute.”
Bush said there will be a push to talk about the agricultural aspect of the school.
“We are going to get a new mar-key cause you know our current mar-key does not have agriculture on it but the new one will,” Bush said. “Our branding on the outside of the building it was left as well but we are going to get that put back up as well.”
Bush said branding is a big deal and is what people know the school by. Bush said at the end of the day he wants students in 2024 to recognize the history and importance of Sergeant York.
