School Board Association Meeting Virtually

School boards and directors from nine Upper Cumberland districts were scheduled to hold the Fall District Meeting at White County’s Findlay Elementary School.
Now, that meeting will be virtual. White County School Board Chairman Jayson McDonald said he looked forward to showing off the county’s newest school.

“We were looking forward to showing off our new Findlay Elementary School, getting to host the meeting there,” McDonald said. “I was going to get to preside over that meeting and get to just spend some time with our fellow school board members from all the Upper Cumberland.”

McDonald said he is most proud of the non-traditional classroom space in Findlay Elementary.

The school is the first built from the ground up for White County in 20 years. He hopes the Executive Director will reschedule the next Fall District Meeting at Findlay.

The SBA is an avenue of communication and involvement between all the school boards in the state. McDonald said a state convention every November gives board directors a chance to see how other districts run their schools.

“They provide us with online resources, training that is required for new school board members, and continuing education for board members that have been on for a while that is mandated by the State Department of Educations,” McDonald said.

A summer law meeting takes place every year in three parts of the state: Jackson, Nashville, and Gatlinburg.

The virtual Fall District Meeting will take place September 3.
