The Rollercoaster Yard Sale is making a return for its 36th Year on Thursday, September 30th through Saturday, October 2nd.
The 150-mile path takes visitors across the Upper Cumberland and parts of Kentucky with stops to buy a variety of goods. Byrdstown Chamber of Commerce Director Billy Robbins said that it’s a curiosity about the goods that brings people to the sale.
“You name it and it’ll be out there,” Robbins said. “It’s similar to the 127 (yard sale). You can find a little bit of everything. from nostalgia to new items, road signs. Gosh, you name it, and it’ll be out there.”
Robbins said that the sale got its name from the terrain the route crosses that goes up and down like a rollercoaster. He said the route takes you all around the Dale Hollow Lake area and through small communities and towns that provide great scenery this time of year. Robbins said that a key focus is safety.
“Get to a location where you can have people get off and pull off the main road and get out and get access to you. That’s the main thing is safety. It’s got to be a safe site where people can get off, see you, and get back on (the highway).”
Robbins said to plan on bringing cash, as most vendors will be cash-only. The sale will have participation from Byrdstown/Pickett Chamber of Commerce, the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, and the Livingston-Overton Chamber of Commerce.
