Rock Island State Park Officials are asking for the public’s help for two ongoing investigations.
Park Manager Damon Graham said the first is a felony theft case that occurred March 11th in a parking lot on Powerhouse Road.
“One of our day areas where a vehicle was broken into,” Graham said. “Several things were stolen from that vehicle. We are just asking if the public can look at our social media pages. We got some people of interest.”
Graham said the person of interest is a middle aged white male with a medium to stocky build. His vehicle appears to be a white/grey older model Chevrolet Avalanche truck with silver step bars.
Graham said the park is also investigating a March 6th vandalism. Park officials currently have no leads on the “Minnow Box” spring house break in.
“One of our historic sites along the roadway on Great Falls Road was vandalized,” Graham said. “Somebody kicked in one of the doors in one of our small spring houses where we had some display items for the public to see, and they stole several of those items and busted several of them.”
Graham said increased amounts of visitors and warm weather cause for concern when it comes to crime. Graham said Rock Island has cameras installed, but the park is so large it is hard to monitor all areas.
“By and large our parks are safe, and we have very low crime, but when you get those very very large crowds there are elements for people looking to do things that we don’t want,” Graham said. “I would just encourage all visitors to parks and fishing areas that are more remote, try to park your car in an as visible spot as possible.”
Graham said he also recommends keeping all items in your vehicle out of sight from the windows. If you have any information for either incident, call the park’s main office.
