Roane State Location In Jamestown On Hold

Plans to find a permanent site location for Roane State Community College in Jamestown are on hold due to Covid-19.

Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson said he hopes the project can move forward to stimulate growth in the community.

“There’s a temporary one being worked on out in the Clarkrange area,” Johnson said, “But it is, I’ve been assured by Roane State, that it’s just gonna be temporary for maybe a year or so until they can find a permanent spot here in Fentress County which I know that they are looking at at this time.”

Once mandates and restrictions due to Covid-19 are lifted, the search for the permanent site will continue.

“After a site is selected, it will be up to the Board Of Regents to approve it,” Johnson said. “It’ll be a lifetime investment for the state to do this and which hopefully that they will see that it will be a good spot here to have it.”

The new, permanent campus of Roane State would serve Fentress County, Overton County, and Morgan County.

Johnson said the campus would be a good fit for the area. One reason, would be easing the financial burden of traveling further distances to other community colleges for families in these areas.
