Rickman Community Forms Non-Profit To Improve Recreation Center

The Rickman community has joined together forming a new non-profit to revitalize its recreation center.

Clint Melton is the President of the Rickman Recreation Corporation. Melton said the goal is to provide recreational and athletic opportunities to future generations.

“There’s really a whole lot that we want to do out there that we want to accomplish,” Melton said. “Eventually, we want to incorporate a lot of different things out there to help the community and the youth of the county. It’s really a big project.”

Melton said it is a multi-year plan to develop the some 20-acre tract. Melton said work right now is focused on repairing the existing baseball field and cleaning up the community center. Melton said eventually, the group plans to bring a new basketball gym and multi-purpose sports field.

“I believe in this community and all of our board members believe in this community,” Melton said. “We know our community will step up to make this dream come true for our kids and all of our citizens to have a place to go.”

Melton said a small group of citizens started the group. Melton said a combination of volunteers and grants have made the work thus far possible.

“We started with weekend days where we would invite the community to come out and help us clean and work on the fields,” Melton said. “From the beginning it’s been about 18 months and the work at the property has been just under a year.”

Melton said by recently obtaining a non-profit designation, the group can now accept donations to help fund the work. Melton said the property is not owned by local government.
