The resurfacing of Willow Avenue will soon begin . . . again.
Community Relations Officer Jennifer Flynn said the project to repave Willow Avenue from Jackson Street to Tennessee Tech, should have already been completed. However, some of the asphalt laid during the cold temperatures earlier this winter did not turn out as expected.
“The asphalt just did not do what we wanted it to,” Flynn said. “It didn’t perform nearly as well as we wanted.”
Flynn said the contractor will remove some of the new pavement laid and replace it. However, hot-mix asphalt plants do not reopen until April.
The poor asphalt…also the reason that road markings have not been completed.
“We’ve had some complaints about the pavement markings out there,” Flynn said.
In addition, crews will work on side roads along Willow Avenue from Jackson Street to Tennessee Tech, removing old asphalt by milling the surface and preparing for new.
The contractor will also work to clean up the site thoroughly, Flynn said.
Work to raise manholes and valve covers has already begun.
Like the first round of asphalt, Flynn said much of the work will be done at night to minimize traffic congestion along Willow Avenue.
