Residents Donating Blood For Texas

Earlier this week, Blood Assurance announced an effort to send blood to two blood centers in Texas.

Blood Assurance Donor Recruiter Trudy Cody said residents are showing off their giving spirit by donating blood.

“You can donate, you can give money, certainly and that helps, but the only way to give blood is to be a donor. We appreciate everyone who helps, everybody helps,” Cody said.

Blood drives have been organized across the area. River Park Hospital in McMinnville will hold one from noon to 5:30 p.m. Friday. Cumberland River Hospital in Celina will hold one from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Anyone can stop by Blood Assurance on Broad Street from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donating blood is a free way to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, Cody said.

That’s going to be the reward you get, you know you’re helping somebody. One unit of blood saves 3 lives. We’re just asking for a little more help out of the community than normal,” Cody said.

Donation costs nothing, Trudy said. She recommends drinking plenty of water and eating a good meal before donating. No appointment is necessary, but for more information or to make an appointment, visit BloodAssurance.org.
