The Cookeville Rescue Mission and Smithville Nazarene Church have partnered with the UCHRA to provide additional Thanksgiving meals this year.
UCHRA Community Services Director LaNelle Godsey says the Mission and Nazarene Church donated 153 meals for their clients in need.
“It’s a great feeling to have wonderful partnerships with local organizations here in the Upper Cumberland,” Godsey says, “who will work with us to help go above and beyond and provide additional meals on holidays for our clients.”
Rescue Mission Executive Director Bruce Bailey says providing the meals allows the area organizations show those in need that they care and want to help.
“This of course is one of the loneliest times of the year as is Christmas,” Bailey says. “For us it means fulfilling what the Lord asks us to do to reach out to others and show compassion and kindness.”
Godsey says non-refrigerated, easy-to-prepare meals were sent to all clients ahead of the holiday season as the Nutrition Program will be closed both Thanksgiving Day and Friday.
“We already have those in the homes. We like to keep at least three shelf-stable meals in the homes in case of holidays or inclement weather,” Godsey says. “We love helping people here at UCHRA. We always want to make sure our seniors and folks with disabilities are receiving those meals and have good things to eat.”
Godsey says the UCHRA, Rescue Mission, and Nazarene Church have partnered to deliver Thanksgiving meals to many of their clients over the years.
“It’s something that we always look forward to, and our clients always look forward to receiving those meals from the Rescue Mission and the Church,” Godsey says.
Godsey says the Nutrition Program will return to normal operations Monday, Nov. 26 following the holiday.
