Repurposing Central View Not Part Of Innovative School Models Grant

Repurposing White County’s Central View School will not be part of the proposal for the system’s Innovative School Model Grant.

The grant is aimed at building readiness and preparing students for success after high school, more students will have opportunities to participate in innovative local programs that boost CTE programs. Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said one preliminary idea had been to repurpose Central View into some kind of working farm or community center.

After a site visit and discussion with agriculture professionals, Dronebarger said that is no longer on the table.

“We were just brainstorming and they shared some things that they thought were positive, but there were several pitfalls we hadn’t thought of that they had shed light on,” Dronebarger said. “And at this point, Mr. Ward has no plans, in fact, we confirmed that this week that we’re not putting anything to do with Central View into that.”

Dronebarger said the plan submitted to the board was just a proposal, and not one set in stone. Dronebarger said at this point, they feel that is not an option and will not be part of the final plan.

Board Member Jayson McDonald said CTE Supervisor Lane Ward had asked everyone involved for outside-the-box ideas. Dronebarger said they already exploring other opportunities for the agriculture department.

“The scope of this innovative schools grant is to think outside of the normal school day, outside the normal school hours, and outside of the normal school site,” Dronebarger said.

The final plan is to be submitted to the state in February. Dronebarger said the official plan will be shared with board members.
