Repairs Coming To Sparta Senior Center Roof

Roof repairs for Sparta’s Senior Center are on the way after receiving storm damage last month.

The Board of Alderman unanimously approved the $19,900 bid Thursday. Mayor Jeff Young said the building’s insurance will cover about half of that cost.

“We did half of that building, which is actually two buildings up there,” Young said. “We did half of that section about two years ago. Naturally, we want to take care of our seniors, and they have had some leaks up there and things like that.”

Young said the repairs should take about two months to complete with no disruptions to the facility operations. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said Turner Roofing of Crossville, who won the bid, also lead the last roof repair project.

“At the pre-construction meeting, Turner was the only one that showed up,” Quick said. “We did send it out to four different contractors. We actually do have some money coming back on this. We are not paying the full 19,900. We had some damage from that came through that storm that went through a month ago. Turner did a great job last time. I have no doubt they will not do a good job this time too.”

The center is located on East Bronson Street.
