Cookeville State Representative Ryan Williams announced today that he will seek re-election to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2018.
The 2018 legislative session is the eighth for Williams as a member of the Tennessee General Assembly. Williams was selected by his peers to serve as House Republican Caucus Chairman before the beginning of last year’s session.
“It has been an extraordinary honor to serve the diligent men, women, and families of District 42 throughout my time as a member of our General Assembly,” said Chairman Williams. “I am also appreciative of the support my colleagues have provided me, as well as the trust they have placed in me during my first year in House leadership.”
In 2017, Williams demonstrated his commitment to higher education for Tennessee’s veterans by sponsoring passage of House Bill 433. This initiative determines that a veteran’s military training can count as college credit at Tennessee’s colleges and universities. Additionally, it updates the Tennessee Veteran’s Education Transition Support (VETS) Act which encourages enrollment of veterans and removes barriers known to impede their success in attaining higher education credentials.
Chairman Williams also fought to establish a long-term system of care for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families with the passage of House Bill 384. It creates the 16-person Tennessee Council on Autism Spectrum Disorder which will make recommendations and provide leadership concerning all levels of ASD services.
Additionally, Williams worked to increase state revenue through tourism with the passage of House Bill 6. This initiative recently helped the state in its efforts to secure an expansion Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise.
“It has been humbling and rewarding to see the transformation that Tennessee has experienced under Republican leadership over the last seven years, and I am excited to further our efforts advancing Tennessee in 2018 and in future years.”
“I renew my pledge to our citizens that I will fight for them, and that I will continue to support conservative policies that make Tennessee one of the best places in the nation to live, work, play, and raise a family. I will continue my unwavering support to protect the rights of the unborn, as well as our First and Second Amendment rights, and I will perform all of my duties in the House chamber with the highest integrity,” concluded Williams.
