Rep. Hale: Swearing-In Process “Humbling And An Honor”

One newly sworn-in legislator calls his experience, “humbling.”

Representative Michael Hale was elected in November to serve District 40. After a long and strenuous campaign process, Hale said being surrounded by his colleagues to be sworn in is an experience he will never forget.

“And to be sitting in a place that only a few people have sat throughout history,” Hale said. “And to sit with the other 99 people serving in the house, it is just humbling. And the honor that comes with it, it is just indescribable.”

Hale said before getting to Nashville, he was afraid that he would feel out of place coming from a rural community. He said after meeting his fellow representatives, he is excited to work towards bettering the future of Tennesseeans and his constituents.

Hale said his mindset as his first legislative session begins is to be constantly learning. He said while some may start their terms with large agendas, he wants to take the time to learn the processes and work as a team to make a change. He said he is excited to get his committee appointments and see what the next year will bring.

“Maybe some people have the mindset to conquer the world but that’s not how it works,” Hale said. “It takes all of us. It’s not about Michael Hale, it’s not about Bill Lee as Governor or Speaker Sexton or Speaker McNally in the Senate. It’s about the people of Tennessee. And we’re there to be a voice for the people of Tennessee.”
