Remote Area Medical Seeking Volunteers For August Clinic

Remote Area Medical is looking for volunteers to help with its August 26th and 27th clinic at First Baptist Church of Livingston.

Clinic Coordinator Brad Sands said the clinic will feature dental care including extractions and fillings, medical care including women’s health and physicals, and vision care including exams and prescription glasses. He said the clinic is currently in need of more licensed vision doctors.

“One of our biggest things that we need volunteer-wise right now actually is an ophthalmologist or optometrist, a vision doc of some kind to come in and see patients,” Sands said. “Right now we don’t have any that have signed up, we’re definitely needing to get a couple of those on board.”

Sands said while they are in need of more doctors, anyone can volunteer regardless of skill level or experience, and there is something for everyone to do.

“We need everything from interpreters to people to guide our patients around from area to area, all the way to checking them in on our computer system,” Sands said. “And all of this we can train you on the site the day of to get you worked in with how we do things.”

Sands said there are no qualifications or requirements to volunteer, except that volunteers under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian present. He said the clinic will need around 150 volunteers, but they will take as many as they can get.

“We need not just the providers that come in because they are coming in and donating their time and allowing patients to come in and get those services for free, but we need our general support volunteers too,” Sands said. “A lot of people think you have to be medically certified in something to come and volunteer, but that’s not the case.”

Sands said anyone willing to volunteer can sign up to do so at ramusa.org by clicking on the volunteer tab and selecting the clinic they want to volunteer for.
