Remembering Hattie Collins

Four year old Hattie Collins passed away after Tuesday’s tornado.

Hattie’s father Matt Collins is the youth minister at Collegeside Church of Christ, and is on the Short Mountain Bible Camp board.

Board member Mark Williams said he never met Hattie, but Matt always talked about her.

“Hearing the loss that his family is suffering is really heart breaking for me. I know the pain he and his family must be feeling and my heart goes out to them during this time,” Williams said. “Of course, he’s talked about how much he loves her, he talks about how much she meant to his family; of course he’s mentioned that he felt like she was his little princess and that she meant the world to him.”

Williams added so many are in pain, and encouraged others to reach out for support through their community.

“I know that they’re hurting, I know that their hearts are broken and it’s just heart breaking in the situation that they’re going through,” Williams said. “Having lost my brother unexpectedly, I know that kind of thing is never easy and the pain is so real for them during this time. I know it’s a very taxing situation.”

The Collins family has an infant daughter that is recovering from medical treatment.
