Mrs. Cathy Tyra, age 65 of Cookeville, died Sunday. Services are incomplete at this time.
Mrs. Linda D. Hatcher Smith, age 65, of Cookeville passed from this life on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born in Davidson County on July 5, 1952 to the late James & Geneva Lawson Hatcher. Linda leaves her son, George Edward Smith of Owensboro, KY; brothers, Larry Hatcher & wife Pam of Franklin, and Jimmy Hatcher & wife Sherrhea of Fairview; 8 nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Sherwood MacRae, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018 in Algood, TN. At his request, there will be no funeral service. His cremated ashes will be given to his sister in California to be distributed in the winds coming off the Pacific Ocean as his final resting place. Sherwood was born in Detroit, MI on August 28, 1929, the son of William J. and Blanche McRae. He attended primary schools in Yale, MI and later graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Mr. MacRae was proud of his service in the USAF from September 1946 to September 1953 and served in the Far East for over four years, which involved service in the Korean War. He was awarded the USAF Commendation Medal for service at the outset of that conflict. For the better part of his life, he was employed as a Personnel Recruiter and Employment Counselor. During his later years, he was best known as a dedicated Christian and wrote many letters to the editors of the Herald-Citizen and The Tennessean newspapers. He was a member of the United Church of Cookeville and later the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his sister, Shirlee Bell of Murrieta, CA; daughters Mary Kathryn and Melinda Suzanne, and sons William Paul and Matthew Clay.
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ann Jordan, age 78, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Celebrant Judy Duke will officiate. Interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Betty passed away Saturday June 16, 2018 at her home.
Funeral services for Mr. Arel Henry Allen, 84, of Cookeville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery on Fairview Road in Putnam County. He passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at NHC Health Care Center in Cookeville. He was born July 9, 1933, in Jackson County, to the late Joe Lee Allen and Della Dickerson Allen. He was a steel worker and lumberyard worker, and a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Gerald Allen and Bobby Allen. Survivors include 1 Son: Joseph Lee Allen of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Barbara Pranger of Detroit, MI; 2 Grandchildren: Nichole and Donald; and 6 Sisters: Wilma Croy of CA, Rilda Allen Stacy of Cookeville, Janice Sheridan of Detroit, MI, Sandra Diemer of Chelsea, MI, Judy Rozar of Fayetteville, and Carolyn Nash of West Land, MI. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services.
Funeral services for Ernie Gene Bohannon, age 68 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday June 21, 2018 beginning at 4:00 pm from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Nolan Cantrell and Bro. Jimmy Lee officiating. Interment will follow in James Bohannon Cemetery in Cookeville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again Thursday from 2:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm. He was born Thursday, November 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Hershel and Pearlie Ann (Lee) Bohannon. Ernie was a loving Husband, Father, Brother, and friend to everyone that knew him. He was a member of Rocky Point Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army, and was employed at Lowe Lumber Company for many years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to James Bohannon Cemetery Fund at Regions Bank or at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Oliver Victor Anderson, age 90, of Cookeville will be held Friday, June 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with David Flatt, Paul Wilmoth and Glen Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial. Mr. Anderson passed away peacefully Monday, June 18, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville surrounded by his family. He was born Monday, August 29, 1927 in Gainesboro to the late Johnny Peyton Anderson and Dona Ragland Anderson. For over forty years, Mr. Anderson served as an Elder at Sycamore and Northeast Churches of Christ. He worked at Cookeville Industries, Sycamore School, and mowed yards until he was eighty-eight years of age. In addition to his parents, Oliver Victor Anderson was preceded in death by: eleven brothers and sisters, Bethel Anderson, Essie Ward, Daisie Neil, Sidney Anderson, Johnnie Pearson, Thomas Anderson, Dora McBroom, Clara Mable Thompson, Loid Anderson, BJ Anderson, and Nick Anderson. He is survived by: his wife of sixty-nine years, Ila Mae Anderson; daughters, Shirley (David) Flatt of Cookeville and Linda (Charles) Crawford of Sparta; son, Stanley (Samantha) Anderson of Cookeville; grandchildren, Dana Wilmoth, Erica Stafford, Elizabeth Kase, Sarah Brady, Jared Anderson, Ann Marie Anderson, Sammy Anderson; great-grandchildren, Riley, Colin, Mae Parker, Amelia, Preston, Lorelei, Arabelle, and Ellington. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21, 2018, 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Friday, June 22, 2018, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.
Memorial services for Don Francis Horsley, age 81, of Cookeville, will be at 4 p.m Friday June 22 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Figura officiating. Mr. Horsley died peacefully in his sleep Monday morning, June 18, 2018, in his home in Cookeville. He was born March 16, 1937 in Oklahoma City, OK to the late Roy Franklin Horsley and Alta Elise Drennan Horsley. Mr. Horsley spent the majority of his career as a computer systems analyst for GE and Honeywell, and was able to live abroad for many of those years. In retirement, he was able to pursue a love of woodworking and clock repair. He was active at Faith Presbyterian Church, OPC in Silver Point, where he and his wife were founding members. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edna Lois Boyd Horsley, whom he married March 12, 1966 in Cookeville; daughter, Karen Kincaid of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Stephanie Horsley of Lake Worth, Florida; son-in-law, Phillips Kincaid of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Corey Kincaid of Cookeville, Joshua Kincaid of Knoxville, Liam “Maddie” Kincaid, and Megan Kincaid; two step-grandchildren Grace and Arden Plett of Lake Worth, Florida; a brother, Raymond Horsley, and a sister-in-law Rachel Horsley, both of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Drennan Horsley. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Nashville. Donations made to Hope Lodge will be used solely at Hope Lodge, 2008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN and may be made in memory of Don F. Horsley.
Memorial services for Mrs. Jodie Bowman, 64, of Gainesboro, will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funera l Home. The family has chosen cremation. She passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, at her residence in Gainesboro. She was born June 5, 1954, in Gainesboro, to the late Tom Joe Bowman and Susan Elizabeth Bowman. She was a retired book keeper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Elizabeth Nichole “Nicki” Beach Chinoy. Survivors include her 2 Sons: Randy Beach and Andrew Grisham both of Gainesboro; and 2 Grandchildren: Kaya Brown of Interlachen, FL and Landon Grisham of Florida; and 3 Sisters: Kathy (David) Haynie of Tuscaloosa, AL, Peggy Bowman of Madison, AL, and Sandy (Donnie) Ragland of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 until time of the service.
