Miss Clara Qualls, 92 of Algood died Tuesday August 28, 2018 at 3:25 a.m. in Cedar Hills Retirement Center in Cookeville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Ms. Edna Ruth Woody Guffey, age 46 of Sparta, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018. Edna was born on February 1, 1972 in Sparta to the late Raymond Woody and Margarette Knowles Davidson. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her grandparents, Allie Mae Smith and Jay Knowles, Floyd and Rita Woody. Edna’s surviving family includes her Daughter: Tabitha Guffey. Son: Joshua Conley. Siblings: Janet Rose, Raven Elmore & husband John, Randy Woody, Margie Farley, Jackie Brown & wife Angie, Rita Woody, Jim Woody. Nieces & Nephews: Carlita Dilts & husband Jason, Mattie Bennett & husband Daniel, Christopher Lewis. Great Nieces & Nephews: Daylia Rose, Wyatt Dilts, Sadie Bennett, James Bennett, Jackie Brown Jr., Erica Brown. Ms. Guffey’s family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with her cremation. A memorial service will be held at Highland Cemetery, arrangements are incomplete.

Louis “JR” Spivey, 64, of Gainesboro, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his residence. He was born September 13, 1953, in Dayton, OH, to the late Louis E. Spivey, Sr. and Delight Cummins Hull. On September 21, 1996, he was married to Lynn Spivey, who survives. He was a high tech industrial maintenance worker in the woodworking industry, and loved to ride his Harley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Brother: Anthony Spivey. Survivors include his Wife: Lynn Spivey of Gainesboro; Son: Casey Slater of Illinois; and 2 Sisters: Edna Mayberry and Chesta Loftis, both of Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time.

Graveside services for Mrs. Edna Louise Garrett Baker, age 62 of Sparta, will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Saylors Cemetery. Mrs. Baker passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Baker was born August 16, 1956 in Crossville to the late Homer Hall and Ester Aileen Garrett. She was an employee of the Delmar Factory, a huge Elvis fan, and loved the beach. In addition to her parents, Edna is also preceded in death by eight of her siblings. Her surviving family members include her Husband of 46 years, Deland Baker; Daughter: Tammy Baker Holt; Grandchildren: Mysterie Holt, Destiny Holt, Dale Holt; Great Granddaughter: Ava Grace Matheney; Brothers: Leroy Garrett, Randy Hall; Sister: Janie Williams. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 9-10:30am at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service for David Lee Lane, age 70 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastors Wade Givens and Robert Murdock officiating. His final resting place will be in Brotherton Cemetery with Military Honors. David went on to be with his Lord and Savior on August 26, 2018. David passed away in his sleep at home after battling many health issues. He was born August 25, 1948 in Putnam County to the late Anna Swallows Lane and Robert Lane. David married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Rebecca Gay Carter Lane and were married for 52 years. They had a daughter, Cynthia Denise Lane Belfatto, and a son, Michael Brandon Lane. David served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1969 and was stationed overseas in Germany, Ft. Lewis, Washington and Ft. Hood, Texas. Afterwards he served 7 years in the Tennessee National Guard. He was Service Manager at Ford Dealerships in Cookeville and Gallatin. In addition, he raised purebred Arabian horses for over 40 years. He was an ordained minister and loved to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ by volunteering in various ministries including prison ministry, troubled youth services, and the elderly and homeless populations. He received his Honorary Doctor of Letters in 2000 and Honorary Doctor of Education in 2005, from Canyonville Christian College. He served on the Board of Directors for Canyonville Christian Academy and Phil Driscoll Ministries. He traveled to Africa for the Water for Life Project to provide water filtration equipment to those in need. He also traveled to Russia and Israel on crusades with Phil Driscoll. David lived a life that was an overflow of the love and joy of Christ in his heart. In addition to his parents, David Lee Lane was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Ruth Lane Mullican and brother-in-law, Hilary Mullican. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Gay Carter Lane; daughter Cynthia Denise Belfatto and son-in-law Craig Anthony Belfatto; son Michael Brandon Lane and daughter-in-law Christy Simpson Lane; sister Arlene Lane Birdwell and brother-in-law Jasper Birdwell. David was blessed with 2 grandchildren Nathaniel Dylan Pride and Emma Lane. They were his pride and joy. David also had several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Thursday, August 30, 2018, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Ulysses Henry Norris, 86 of Sparta, will be held at 1pm on Friday, August 31 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Ulysses passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his residence. Born Friday, May 27, 1932 in Collinsville, Alabama, he was the son of the late Lewis Norris and the late Ruby Johnson Norris. He was the husband of Francis Cooper Norris; and the father of Steven Norris and the late William Norris. Family will receive friends from 11am until the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Alzheimer’s Associaton or Avalon Hospice.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Robertson, age 97 of Cookeville will be held Saturday September 1 at 11 a.m. at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Robertson’s family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner and Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Diedri “De” Sue Carlin, 73, of Cookeville, will be Saturday September 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the River Community Church. De passed away suddenly Friday morning August 17, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 22, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA to the late Harlan and Donna Seright Updegraff. De was an Registered Nurse for 44 years, having worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center for eight years prior to retirement in 2016. She was a member of the River Community Church and loved to spend time with her friends, the “River Chicks.” She and husband Jerry were members of the Pistons Car Club. De is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Carlin of Cookeville, who she married December 6, 1980 in Atlanta, IL; daughter, Kimberleigh (Robert) Davis of Huntington Beach, CA; brother, Harlan Updegraff III of Granville; five grandchildren, Luke, Matthew and Andrew Davis of Huntingon Beach, Cody Dodd of Cookeville, and Lyndsay Dodd of Dublin, GA; nieces, Sarah Hollar of Anaheim, CA, Christie Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO, and Amanda (Drew) Lyndsay of Athens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Jerri Lynn Dodd; and step-son, Michael Carlin. Because of De’s love for animals, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501.

Memorial Service for Lee Alan Vickers, 71 of Sparta, will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 829 Vally View Drive, Sparta, TN on Monday, September 3, 2018. Lee passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 at Wyndridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Crossville after a hard fought battle with brain cancer. He was born October 31, 1946 to Marjorie A. Knodle and Donald N. Vickers. Lee was a veteran of U.S.M.C., having served honorable in Vietnam. He was a design engineer for many years with Bucyrus. He was a brother Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Council 14902. He was also a member of the Sparta Garden Club. He is survived by his two daughters, Aimee Watson of Camden, S.C. and Leann Earnest of Altus, OK. He has two grandchildren, three sisters, Ellen (Richard) Scott, North Aurora, IL., Suzan (Jay) Brown, Memphis, and Peggy Latchford, DePue, IL many nieces and nephews and his best friend of (60) years, Sherry Hickey, Sparta. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Mary Sterling. Visitation will be held at 9:30am and a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am. Lunch will follow. Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to St. Andrew Church.

A Celebration Of Life Service For Clyde Chester “Chet” Neal, Age 75, Of Livingston, Will Be Conducted On Saturday, September 8, 2018 At 2:00 PM At The Life Church “The Garage” In Cookeville. His Wishes Of Cremation Are Being Honored With Inurnment In Indiana At Later Date. Mr. Neal Went Home To Be With The Lord On Sunday, August 19, 2018, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Neal Was Born On March 9, 1943, In New Castle, Indiana, To The Late Clyde W. And Catherine Pierce Neal. Mr. Neal Was Retired From General Motors In Anderson, Indiana, Where He Worked For 42 Years. He Was A Member Of Life Church And Loved His Church Family. He Was A Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, And Friend. He Is Survived By His Wife, Doris Looper Neal Of Livingston, TN; Daughter And Son-In-Law, Lisa C. And Brian Inman Of Indianapolis, IN; Son And Daughter-In-Law, Allen J. And Carla Neal Of Sarasota, FL; Stepchildren, Lisa And Kevin Jackson Of Algood, Eric And Kim Fox Of Hilham; 6 Grandchildren, Jansen Wade, Jerika Wade, Matthew (Rachel) Jackson, Zachary (Maggie) Jackson, Levi (Anna) Fox, And Wade (Brooke) Fox; 4 Great Grandchildren, Alivia Baker, Hannah Baker, Charlotte Jackson, And Bennett Jackson; Sister, Dorothy Lee Of Albany, KY; Sisters-In-Law, Betty Neal Of Muncie, IN, Mary Swallows Of Rickman, Joyce Ray Of Algood; And Several Nieces And Nephews.
