Glynn Allen Sherrell, age 78 of Sparta, passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Agnes Katherine Popa, 95 of Sparta, Tennessee, formerly of Allen Park, MI, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Born Sunday, April 16, 1922 in Hudson Township, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaw Wujciekowski and the late Rosella Mazanna Wujciekowski. Surviving are son, Michael Popa (Annette) of Sparta; daughter, Suzanne Patterson (John) of Florida; grandchildren, Brian Popa (Paula) of KY, Beth Tilt (Nick) of MI, Jeffrey Popa (Taylor) of MI, Suzanne Konkus (Kelly) of MI, and Jonette Fay (Steve) of MI. Great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive. Preceding her in death is her husband, Mike Popa. Funeral services will be held at a later date in Allen Park, Michigan.

Funeral Services for Jimmie Dean “Jim” Roberson, age 60 of Putnam County, Tennessee will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00AM from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery in Algood, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-8:00PM Thursday and Friday 8:00AM until time of service at Whitson Funeral Home. Mr. Roberson passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Jimmie Dean “Jim” Roberson was born on January 12, 1958 in Putnam County, TN to the late Alvin Thomas and Lula Geneva (Bohannon) Roberson. He was a construction worker with his family. And inaddition to his parents, was preceded in death by his Sister: Audrey Parsons and an Infant Sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Thurl R. Carmack, 70, of Gainesboro will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, February 9, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in the Fairview Community of Jackson County. He passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Thurl was born November 1, 1947, in Jackson County, to the late Dalpho Jackson Carmack and Lizzie D. Goolsby Carmack. He was married to Mary Lou Carmack, who survives. He was a self-employed painter, and served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his Wife: Mary Lou Carmack of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Son: Jacob Carmack of Celina, and his girlfriend, Rachel Stamps; 2 Daughters: Penny Sproles of Gainesboro, and Rena (Ryan) Kincaid of IN; 4 Grandchildren: Justin Carmack, Christopher Carmack, Kyle Sproles, and Ashlynn Kincaid; 1 Great Grandchild: Briella Nicole Sproles; 1 Brother: Jerry Wayne Carmack of Cookeville; and 1 Sister: Carol Collins of Allons. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Friday from 9 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral services for Mr. George Washington McCormick, 84 of Silver Point and formerly of Nashville, will be held Friday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Tony Crow will officiate. George’s family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. He died Monday February 5, 2018 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services for Mr. David Wayne Sherrell, age 66, of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Friday, February 9, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial to follow in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville Community. The family will receive friends from 11-1:00pm Friday at Hunter Funeral Home. Mr. Sherrell passed away Saturday morning February 3, 2018 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. When he was only 12 years old, Wayne began his lifelong journey into the world of firefighting, as he became a well-known face at the old city hall, on Bockman Way, where he would assist in all aspects of dispatching and provide aid to anyone who entered the doors. Wayne also delved into the world of photography, which led him to become one of the youngest employees at The Expositor in the early 1960’s. He continued his employment at the newspaper for several years and even ventured out on his own with a smaller publication. He also worked at Sparta Police Department where he was responsible for obtaining grants that helped the department grow and flourish in its mission of protecting the residents of Sparta. Wayne also served as a dispatcher and would work countless hours to ensure his beloved hometown was safe. Wayne continued his career in emergency services and became the director of White County E-911 where he remained until his declining health caused him to retire.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane McGee Reeder, 79, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery in Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and on Saturday from 8 A.M. until time of services. She passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro, TN. She was born October 30, 1938, in Jackson County, TN, to the late James Henderson “J.H.” McGee and Sally Cordia McGee. She was married to the late Dorman D. Reeder, who passed away September 13, 2008. She was a garment factory worker, and a member of the Sugar Creek Church of Christ. Bro. Jimmy Anderson will officiate at the services. Memorial donations may be made to the Flynn Cemetery or the donor’s favorite charity by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Jean Miller, age 74 of Hilham, will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11 AM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Honey Springs Cemetery located in Crawford. Mrs. Miller passed away on Sunday Morning February 4, 2018 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. Mrs. Miller was born in Twinton, Overton Co. on May 7, 1943 to the late James Frank and Happy (Abston) Hammock. She was a very loving and caring person. She never met a stranger. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved being with her family and going to church. Mrs. Miller is surveved by 2 Sons: Ronnie Paul of Carryington, Richard Paul of Knoxville; 4 Daughters: Kimberly Cook of Hilham, Kelly Abston of Nashville, Elaine Draise of Hamilton, OH, Lisa Marino of Tampa, FL; 3 Sisters and which were her caregivers: Delorse O’Brien of Hilham, Wanda Neely and her husband James of Hilham, Judy Wisner and her husband Jay of Anderson, IN; 2 Brothers: Jessie Hammock and his wife Misty of Anderson, IN, Jackie hammock and his wife Debbie of Anderson, IN; 2 Sisters in-law: Julia Hammock of Anderson, IN, Helen Rains of New Castle, IN; 1 Brother in-law: Roger Miller and his wife Connie of Anderson, IN; A special family friend: Leroy Phillips; 19 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren; A host of nieces,nephews, family and friends also survive. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller is preceded in death by Husband: Kenneth R. Miller; 2 Sisters: Billie Jo Clark, Peggy Scherer; 3 brothers: James Hammock, Jr., Johnny Hammock, Jimmy Hammock; Brother in-law: Guy “Pete” Rains. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, February 9, 2018 starting at 4 PM until 8 PM. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Ricardo Rodriguez.

Funeral services for Glynn Allen Sherrell, age 78 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, February 10, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Mr. Sherrell passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sherrell was born August 13, 1939 to the late Edward and Gladys Parazetta Bray Sherrell in White County. In addition to his career as a contractor and carpenter, Glynn was a US Army Veteran and farmer. He was also a devoted family man who loved to sing and a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Glynn is also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Lyles and brother-in-law, Tommy Lyles. His surviving family includes Wife of 57 years, Dian Louise Paynter Sherrell, Children: Kent Allen Sherrell of Sparta, Karen Kay McCulley and husband Jimmy of Sparta, Kelly Paulett Kilgore and husband Michael of Sparta, Karl Edward Sherrell and wife Kim of Sparta, Kandy May Cantrell and husband Randal of Tullahoma, Grandchildren: Kristopher Sherrell, Kevin Sherrell, Audrey and Dylan Lockwood, Jesse Sherrell, Daniel and Kelsey McCulley, Tyler and Haley McCulley, Kristin and Zach Nosbisch, Stephen and Carrissa Mackie, Mykel and Maddie Cantrell, Kaycee and Bryan Nieves-Rosa, Several Great Grandchildren, The family will receive friends Friday from 4-8pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Clarence Jared and Tracy Curtis will conduct the service.

Funeral Services for Carmella Amonette, age 71 of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday at 1:00pm from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. Ronald Strong will officiate at the service and family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00am until time of services at 1:00pm. Carmella Jerry Amonette was born on March 16, 1946 in Jackson County to the late James William and Hallie Burgess Philpot. She passed away on February 6, 2018 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was the Owner/Operator of the Mouse Trap for many years. In addition to her Parents, she was preceded in death by; her husband, Jack Ray Amonette and two brothers, Billy and Pascal Philpot.

Funeral Services for Phillip Howard Smith, 73 of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with his son David Michael Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Shipley Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee. Phillip passed away on Wednesday, February 07, 2018 at his home after years of a long illness. Phillip was born Saturday, July 29, 1944 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Rev. H.B. and Alma (Davis) Smith. Phillip retired from General Motor Company in Doraville, Georgia. He later worked at Baxter Elementary School as a custodian. In the early 70’s Phillip wrestled under several assumed names. Mr. Fang, Howie Smith and also a tag team, The Destroyer and The Cowboy and Mule Skinner. He was acquainted with the “Great Andre the Giant”, Tommy Wildfire Rich, The Hart Boys and several other during his wrestling career. Phillip is survived by: Wife: Carolyn Maynard Smith, Daughter: Donna and Mike Capozzoli, 3 Sons: Dwayne and Renee Smith, David and Tammy Smith, Daniel and Tonya Smith, 3 Stepdaughters: April and Sam Gaylord, Christina and Matt Groneck, Ashlea Mitchell, 21 Grandchildren: Lindsey, Kristen, Ciara, Amber, Felecia, Megan, Dylan, Ashlee, Chandler, Gracelyn, Addison, Rhendi, Stetson, McKenzie, Parker, Tristan, Jacob, Thaddeus, Nikki, Tyler, and Hannah, 10 Great-Grandchildren, Sister: Tena and Lloyd Howard, 3 Nieces: Angie, Missy, and Amy, 3 Nephews: George, Darren, and Tony. In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by: Granddaughter, Madison. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Lawson Pope, age 74, of Sparta, will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, February 11, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Pope passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018. Mrs. Pope was born March 17, 1943 to the late James Saint and Carrie Abney Lawson. Dorothy worked at Krogers, but enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Malcolm Pope; sisters, Jane Hogan, Christine Warrington, Marie Phillips; brother, James Ray Lawson and son-in-law, David Gesing. Her surviving family includes Daughters: Carrie Gesing Harper and husband Anthony, Jackie Johnson, Grandchildren: Ryan Gesing and wife Tabbie, Jennifer Gesing and fiance Eric Jacob, Amanda Gesing and fiance Bryan Daniel, Courtney Gesing, Carrie Marie Pope and fiance Arthur Gamblin, Caleb Jasper Pope, Great Grandchildren: Jeremiah, Locklyn, Roxanne, Karsyn, Sister: Helen Morris, Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-8pm at Hunter Funeral Home.
